Hi hello, my name is Jennifer Tran, but I go by JFresh. I’m a recent Biochemistry graduate from McMaster University and my home VSA for the past four years was MVSA! I’m avid lover of doggos, food, spending quality time with my friends and family, kpop, meeting new people, and actively working to improve myself! Underneath this intimidating persona is a warm and friendly person waiting to talk to you! Do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about UVSA, VSA, or if you just want to have some real talks! My goal for this year is to really showcase UVSA’s mission statement of being a resource for the VSAs, to improve presence within the community, and to strengthen relations with other UVSAs across North America.
Hi there! My name is Hieu Do and I attended Western University specializing in Interdisciplinary Medical Sciences. Being raised by very supportive parents who wouldn’t be as supportive if I didn’t speak Viet at home, I came to learn what it meant to be Vietnamese and being able to embrace my roots with my head held high. If there’s anything you want to know about me, don’t be afraid to reach out as I am all about inclusivity! I cannot wait to continue the traditions of which UVSA has been built upon, and seeing how we can all work together in executing our visions as part of the #giadinh!
Whatsup everyone! I’m Jerick Nguyen and I’m currently entering my 3rd year at the University of Western Ontario, studying sociology. Growing up, I was from a very Vietnamese home where I was constantly taught about the culture, heritage, and forced to learn the language. Now I am currently one of UWO’s VSA President in addition to being UVSA’s Internal Vice President. On my spare time I love crossing people up on the courts and I’m a huge hypebeast and sneakerhead (but mans out here as broke as can get). Other than all the basic stuff, I can’t wait to meet all the beautiful faces and grow even closer with the Vietnamese community!
Bonjour, Tiff here! I grew up going to Vietnamese language school and wanted to continue my involvement in Vietnamese culture, so I joined AeVSA at the University of Ottawa. I’m now pursuing a Master’s at McMaster (yes you read that right) in public health and am delighted to still be involved in the Vietnamese community! I’m passionate about the great outdoors, mental health advocacy, gluten, and healthy public policy. As VP External and the Eastern Canada Representative for UNAVSA, I can’t wait for us to connect and make our VSA visions a reality!
Hello hello! My name is Nancy Nguyen and I’m a recent graduate from University of Waterloo. I grew up in a small town in Northern Ontario and have always wanted to learn more about my Vietnamese heritage. It all started with UW VSA five years ago and I have been actively involved with it ever since! You can often find me jumping from one cafe to another, sipping on coffee, tea, or bubble tea. I have a lot of love for cattos and doggos, my family and friends, food, caffeine, Netflix, and my bed. I’m an introvert at heart, but behind this quiet persona and hard to approach face, I love to meet new people! So, feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or just want to be friends! I promise I don’t bite 🙂
Hai hai! My name is Yashar Hoang and I graduated from George Brown College majoring in Graphic Design in 2017. Currently, I am working full-time as a t-shirt designer in Vaughan for a promotional apparel company as well I began my venture as a business owner and currently have my own design firm in North York. I am a hardcore tech enthusiast and a media junkie. In my spare time, you will find me drinking bubble tea, working on projects, singing karaoke at Twister or binge-watching YouTube videos. Throughout the year, I will be heavily involved in the community as a newly appointed Board of Director in Marketing for VCPA as well as one of the Council of Regional Representatives for Eastern Canada within UNAVSA. I am looking forward to becoming more close to the Vietnamese culture and to network with even more people! So give me a shout if you have any questions or if you simply want to be friends!
I said hey, what’s up, hello! It’s me Jennifer Dao. I graduated from University of Toronto (Mississauga) 2 years ago with an undergrad degree in Digital Enterprise Management, aka Business Technology. Since then I’ve been working corporate in global financial crime investigations and still figuring out life as I go. Out and about, can catch me exploring, foodie blogging, being a reporter and creating content for Thoi Bao Media, and going to sports games/concerts! Striving to always pursue the path of positivity! I’m excited for this chapter, and cannot wait to work alongside you all and for the greater good of our community.
Hey y’all! The name’s Will and I’m currently a 3rd-year student at McMaster University studying Biomedical Discovery and Commercialization. Hello! I’m Carthy (pronounced Cathy). I was apart of UTMVSA during my last 2 years of undergrad (2016-17), and it truly made up some of my best memories from university! I love nice people, arts and crafts, good humour, badminton, and decluttering. I’m taking a break from my Master’s in Speech-Language Pathology at UofT until January because my dad fell ill and passed away in February. This year has been one of healing and renewal for my mom and me. I’m here to chat if anyone is going through a tough time (or the opposite)! Feel free to ask me about my dad, because he was and is a huge part of my life and Vietnamese identity. <3
My name is Ashley Nhan and I’m recent a graduate of McMaster University’s Honours Biology Program. My four years with the McMaster Vietnamese Students Association allowed me to grow immensely, and has inspired me to give back to the Vietnamese Community. Outside of VSA I have a strong interest in health advocacy, sustainability, and promoting equality. My urge to help and do more has driven me over the course of my life, and I’m happy to say I’ve been accepted into the New England College of Optometry for the fall of 2019. This year I will be working at the Canadian National Institute of the Blind in East York, predominantly in Assistive Technology for our visually impaired clients. I’m extremely excited to be able to hold a role with UVSA, if you ever have any interest in anything listed above please feel free to ask me questions! In my down time I enjoy of food, music, travel and more - so don’t be hesitant to strike up a conversation with me (I promise I won’t bite).

Hey! My name is Andy Phan and I’m currently a student at McMaster University entering my third year in Health Sciences. I didn’t grow up in a big Vietnamese family, just my mom and me, with most of my family back in Vietnam. I’ve lived in British Columbia, Quebec, and now Ontario. As well, I’m a huge kboo and am currently awaiting for I.O.I to reunite. Recently, I joined the MVSA community and have met a great number of amazing people. From them, I was inspired to empower and encourage youth leaders to emerge from within our Vietnamese communities.
Hi, hey, hello!!! I’m Monica and I’m currently a third year Social Psychology student minoring in Labour Studies at McMaster U. You can often find me exploring everything that Ontario has to offer, such as food, nature, and people! (srsly I’ll go on a last minute adventure to Ottawa just for donuts and macarons) Or, I’m rescuing stray puppers and kitties at the animal shelter. Other than that, I love playing sports and even played for McMaster’s field hockey team. Overall, I’m a lil’ goofball that loves a good adventure and I can’t wait to see what the world has to offer and all of your beautiful faces! ♥♥♥♥♥
Hi everyone!! My name is Olivia Nguyen and I am currently a second-year student in Humber College studying Advertising and Graphic Design. I am working at the Toronto Pearson Airport as a customer service representative for 9 months and I really enjoy the job. I have been living in Canada for almost 1 year and I have participated as a graphic designer in a few organizations such as Humber Vietnamese Students Association (HVSA), VIS Media Community, where I have been doing a lot of designs and photographs.
